Welcome to EQWIP HUBs in Surabaya, Indonesia!
Indonesia's population is an estimated 250 million people, about half of which is below the age of 30. As the economy slows in the world's fourth-most-populous country, the concern for unemployment, amongst the younger generation of Indonesians in particular, rises. However, the thinkable is possible for Indonesia's second largest city's economic development – Surabaya is the ideal location for an innovative EQWIP HUB!
We are grateful to have the opportunity to work with Riwani Globe, our partner who provides mentorship and training for entrepreneurship. Working with such an experienced partner with the same aspirations as us, we are sure to see a positive result in the community!
Our purpose is to enhance the livelihoods of youth by providing them with an opportunity and the support they need to develop their skills for the workforce; and to strengthen the capacity of our partner organisation to deliver innovative and sustainable, gender-responsive youth
livelihood programming. In building the capacity and capabilities of today's youth, we offer them training sessions, empowerment, support, access to technology, capital, and networking opportunities. Our hope is to develop this project in a sustainable manner to which Riwani Globe can carry forward at the end of our journey here. The vision of this project is to establish a global network of innovation spaces that connect and transform the economic trajectory of youth.
EQWIP HUBs Surabaya is made up of an amazing team who have been working so hard to create the perfect environment for Surabaya's youth. Our Hub Coordinator Diana works endless hours moving this project forward. Our Knowledge Manager and our Training & Facilitator, Emily and Shana, have been planning the best possible tertiary training sessions. Michael, our Business Advisor has been working closely with our Partner Riwani Globe, executing their capacity assessment. Elaine, our Innovation Advisor has been working to implement the hub design. Finally, our Baseline Study Coordinator & Data Analyst has been compiling final remarks on what can and needs to be achieved throughout the duration of this project.
We can't wait to get this project into full swing! Our next step is to launch the Employment and Entrepreneurial Work Program. It is designed to help youth develop their unique skills and capabilities, and how to use those skills to find work. The comprehensive three month program provides opportunities for youth, aged 18-29, to practice the skills that local job markets are seeking, and gain confidence to find and secure employment. The program has been designed in collaboration with local industry in Indonesia to ensure the skills and lessons are relevant.
If you are between the ages of 18-29 in Surabaya, and you are interested in taking part in our Employment and Entrepreneurial Work Program, please click here to find out how you can get involved!
